Dr. Evan's is not understanding of animals at all. He was so rough with my poor dog that he peed himself all over and whined like someone was killing him when administering a shot. I could've done a better job.
The two ladies at the checkout went back to talk to the exam room girl "Mallory" or "Valery" (don't remember her name now) , even stating that they knew they were "trying to keep you under $100". The girl who was in the exam room never came out, but both girls went back to talk to her and said "she gets a little worked up sometimes" but concluded that she said the shot was $20 when in actuality the one my dog needed was $25. The only defense they had was that the girl said "about $111."
I have been taking my fur babies, Trixi and Oreo, here since they were puppies (they are now 12 and 11 years old). As a first time dog owner 12 years ago, New Hope Animal Hospital made me feel sure that I was getting the best care for my kiddos and that they care as much as I do for them. The staff and doctors are always super nice and very caring. They always listen to my concerns, they explain any treatments, options and cost, they follow-up after appointments and I can always call them with questions. I would highly recommend this vet to anyone!
Today I took my newest dog in and explained my budget was tight this week and could only afford $100 worth of shots and I would come in later to do the rest. They gave me this HUGE list of things that they recommend which was over $300. I then re-stated that my budget was going to be $100, I only wanted to get done what needed to be done so I could board my dogs this week (over $200 I'd be spending in 3 more days in addition to todays shots). They got it down to $91. Then they said he needed one vaccination that was expired which would be $20 and would bring the total to $111.
I have taken my two dogs to NH for years and had a good experience in the beginning. I don't know if it is because it is a corporately owned clinic or what but I never see the same doctor and they are always understaffed. The people at the front desk are pleasant but the wait is always long and on one occasion I had to wait over half and hour for a heart worm med refill. I had called hours ahead of time to get the refill ready and they said it would be ready by the time i'd come to pick it up after work - not only did they forget to fill the Rx but they forgot I was even sitting in the waiting room waiting on the Rx they forgot to fill! That wasn't even the last straw... a week ago I get a reminder that both dogs need to update their shots. I call to schedule an appointment and they can't get me in for 3 weeks! I am going out of town next week and have plans to board my dogs so this is incredibly inconvenient. My friend recommended Prairie Creek - I called and they scheduled me in right away for that weekend. The difference is night and day. I didn't have to wait 20 min, see a technician, then wait for another 20-30 min to see the doctor - I saw the doctor right away, my dogs were very comfortable and I was out of there in 30 min! I can't believe I didn't switch sooner! Needless to say, I will no longer be taking my dogs to New Hope.
I really need to board my dogs this week so I said fine. The doctor came in and did the exam and mentioned a few more things I might want to consider and I re-stated that my maximum I could afford today was $111. The doctor stepped out and came back and said we were "really close" to your budget so they would stop there. I go out front to pay and it's now magically $116 and change...
This is ridiculous as I asked for a total with tax. It was suppose to be like $111.56. Which was already $11.56 over my budget. You may read this and think, "it's just $5." It's not that, it's the clear budget that I laid out and them saying "we'll work with that" and then coming back and saying (after the shots are all given) it's more than what you agreed to over your budget and the girl "meant, 'about' $111). Even though I asked for taxes and all.
If I could give this vet a zero I would. I was charged fifty-one dollars for a health certificate for my first dog at eleven am. Fast forward four hours for that exact SAME piece of paper I was charged one hundred eighty nine dollars because they added one line of information. I was told it would be “ taken care of” then the the vet (Evans) came out and told me oh it’s because of the bordertella that’s how fifty one dollars went to a little over triple the cost. This is the worse money driven place I’ve ever seen. My dog also peed herself all over the place. I paid a total of $240 dollars for a single piece of paper.
I have 3 dogs and have been taking them to this clinic for all of their care for almost a year now. I've also boarded my dogs there more than once. Up until today I would have recommended this clinic to anyone.
I'm very put off by this. From here on out I will be taking my dogs elsewhere as well as boarding them elsewhere. I also really dislike when employee's are trying to resolve the issue and come back saying the other employee "gets worked up" and can't calmly come out and admit they didn't give me the right price on a shot.
